Tampa Escorts: Rev. Avery McCree Works With Lakeland for Street Improvements

McCree and residents are unsure where the neighborhood got its nickname, but said most everyone calls it “the bottom.”
The name may derive from the slight downward slope of Amos Avenue, said Sgt. Terri Smith, Lakeland Police Department spokeswoman. The area is rumored to have once bordered a creek.
Residents and law enforcement remember when the neighborhood was a haven for crime.
Ralph LaMones Jr., 33, grew up on Amos Avenue and recalls coming home from school when he was a third-grader to find deputies rounding up drug offenders in the neighborhood.
A portion of Crawford Street between Amos Avenue and Lincoln Avenue stood just outside the city limits in the early 1980s when Capt. Victor White, then a Lakeland Police Department narcotics officer, patrolled the area. Gambling, prostitution and drugs reigned on that block of Crawford Street.
