Tampa Massage Parlors: Woman arrested at New Port Richey massage parlor

Friday, April 27th, 2012

NEW PORT RICHEY –
New Port Richey massage parlor is in hot water after a woman was arrested on charges ranging from prostitution to practicing massage without a license.
New Port Richey arrested a woman working at Miyako Spa at 4962 US 19. Police aren’t able to identify the woman at this time because she didn’t have a valid form of identification to show American citizenship.
Police made the arrest during an undercover sting sparked by community complaints.
Between 2007 and 2008, six women were arrested back at the spa on similar charges; ICE deported three of them.
Chief James Steffens says the community’s involvement to report unusual activity is what the department needs to crack down on the illegal activity.
The operation was a joint collaboration between New Port Richey Police, the Department of Health, Clearwater police and the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

Under the terms of the lease, construction will start Dec. 1 and end by May 31, 2014. The $25 million-plus construction project is expected to employ 425 workers, and the hotel is expected to have a staff of 100.
The hotel will pay the city rent of $1 a year for the first two years, $10,000 annually for years three through 30 and $15,000 a year for years 31 through 60. For the first 20 years, the operator will be required to run the hotel at least on a par with a three-star or three-diamond hotel as rated by a rating agency such as AAA. After that, the lease does allow some additional uses on the property, including offices, residences or a school.
Under no circumstances, however, can any part of the courthouse be used for a pool room, dance hall, pawn shop, gambling den, adult book store, second-hand store, illegal massage parlor, beauty school, barber college, auction house, flea market or church.

Working with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Florida State University Center for the Advancement of Human Rights, Burgin authored a bill in 2009 designed to empower law enforcement. In addition to increasing the penalties for those convicted of the crime, Burgin’s bill would require massage parlor employees to have identification on them at all times.

Her bill would require massage parlor employees to carry a valid U.S. passport, driver’s license or Employment Authorized Document. That would give law enforcement authorization to request identification, and determine who’s working illegally, she said.
