Valrico man accused of secretly taping inside Minnesota airport restroom

MINNEAPOLIS — A traveler from Valrico concealed a camera inside a book and surreptitiously recorded men at an airport urinal, authorities said Wednesday.
Joshua Fletcher, 34, faces two gross misdemeanor counts of interference with privacy.
The incident happened Monday at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport as Fletcher awaited a flight to Florida, authorities said.
An airport spokesman said it came to light when a traveler alerted police he had been taped in a bathroom.
Authorities said Fletcher had rigged a book to hide a camera.
It occurred in the same restroom where former U.S. Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, was arrested in 2007 and accused of soliciting sex from an undercover police officer, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.

According to the affidavit, when the deputy caught up with the woman, she stated “that she was preparing to engage in prostitution behind the business.”
While the woman was detained by another deputy, the responding deputy deployed a K-9 and tracked the man, who was lying down in the woods west of 5112 Beau Lane, the report stated.
Following his arrest, the man, who has a tattoo on his arm that says “Family,” told deputies that the woman was a prostitute and he fled the area because he thought the officer was her husband who “was coming to rob him,” the report stated.
David Arnold Hanshew, 26, and Sharon Lee Haines, 42, both of New Port Richey were each charged with loitering and prowling.

Haines also faces charges of prostitution in a Jan. 12 arrest.

State Senator Cites Chris Rock Joke in Gambling Debate by Claiming Tampa is the Strip Club Capital of the World

“In the words of noted urban planner Chris Rock, Tampa is the ‘strip club capital of the world,’” wrote GQ last year.
“Speaking of needing some rest, Chris Rock (who has joked Tampa is the strip club capital of the world) was spotted at 2001 Odyssey on Dale Mabry,” wrote the Tampa Bay Times in 2008.
We’re not 100 percent sure whether the title originated with Rock, but the Times reported that he cracked the joke while doing a show in Tampa back in 2008: “I hear this is the strip club capital of the world. They teach you pole dancing in the third grade.”
Though it appears both Bogdanoff and Rock are wrong. Tampa is not the strip club capital of the world.

PolitiFact Florida: Is Tampa the ‘strip club capital of the world’?
It came up in Tallahassee this week.
State Sen. Ellyn Bogdanoff, a Fort Lauderdale Republican, wanted to thwart claims that new destination resort casinos she supports would tarnish Florida’s family-friendly rep.
“People do not go to South Beach to see Mickey Mouse. They just don’t,” she said at the end of debate on her gambling bill Monday. “They go there for different reasons. We have the strip club capital of the world in Tampa. I hate to say it out loud, but we do. We have not ruined our family-friendly image.”
It’s been said about Tampa many times, but is it true? PolitiFact Florida decided to review the evidence.
On a more serious note, they also fact-checked an ad from a super PAC targeting Newt Gingrich. The ad has some truth in it, but also one claim that’s Pants on Fire.

But Nascimento began to see a pattern in her research of girls that were sexually abused ended up in prostitution.
“It’s human trafficking. Girls that are 16 years old end up becoming child prostitutes,” she said. “A child cannot be a prostitute. She is a sexually exploited child.”

You have people who start off as a good person, and then they get addicted, and you hear the stories of young women who get addicted (to pills) and then they turn to prostitution and live from hotel room to hotel room and sleeping with anyone just to get their next fix, Koder said. And unfortunately, you see that a lot more than you might think. The Hollywood version of prostitution, thats not what we see. We see people who are living in terrible conditions, theyre addicted to drugs, and they prostitute themselves to support their habit. And you look at the progression of their faces in their arrest records or their drivers licenses, and they age. A girl whos in her 20s will look like shes in her 50s in five years. Its really sad.

PINELLAS PARK Undercover Detective Barry Touart has had a front row seat to prescription drug trafficking in Pinellas Park.
And it aint pretty.
Theyre hiding these pills in places that you will not believe, he said. That to me was a shock: theres no shame. Theres no self-value. They let everything go so bad; its sad.
Touart is fairly new as a detective, having joined the Pinellas Park Police Department three years ago. As a member of the vice and narcotics unit, his caseload can include prostitution, gambling, alcohol and any sort of drug. But these days, the unit tends to focus on prescription drugs.

Oh, Occupy Tampa, where art thou?
Occupy Tampa has moved lock, stock, placards, frisbees and skateboards from downtown Tampa to West Tampa.
They’re standing fast,  and have morphed from direct action to a holding action, camped on a parcel of land owned by strip club empresario, Joe Redner, over there, backstage, in the wings, while  between engagements on the Occupy Tampa main stage,  Curtis Hixon Riverfront Park area over on Ashley Drive.
And Occupy Tampa’s  next engagement on that main stage will be in August when the Republican National Convention will convene in Tampa for four long days of delegating, voting, and fussin’ and fightin’ inside the Tampa Bay Times Forum,  over who carries the GOP banner  into the Presidential electiion.
And four long days and nights of fussin’ and fightin’ outside the Forum over who can get arrested faster for throwing things at the massive security force assembled to contain them.

Occupy Tampa Occupies Working-Class West Tampa
While many of the Occupy Wall Street protestors nationwide have retreated from their tent cities due to police pressure or the cold, the protest continues in Tampa. We take a look at the new, less-upscale location for Occupy Tampa.
The new year has brought new changes for Occupy Tampa. They’ve moved away from their encampment next to the tony high-rises of downtown, and are now largely in the decidedly more working-class environs of West Tampa. There, in a postage-stamp-size park owned by strip club magnate Joe Redner, more than a dozen tents have popped up.
Behind signs proclaiming this patch the “Voice of Freedom Park,” acupuncturist Becky Rubright camps out in the bitter weather. She says the move from downtown’s Curtis Hixon Park has reinvigorated the movement.
