TAMPA — A former starting offensive lineman for the Dallas Cowboys was arrested Tuesday night and charged with felony drug and weapons charges after police say he sold an undercover officer $20 in marijuana in the strip club where he works.
Torrin Tucker, 32, who started 24 games for the Cowboys from 2003-05 and played last year for the UFL’s Sacramento Mountain Lions, was charged with four felonies -— possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, delivery of marijuana and possession of a firearm during commission of a felony — along with a misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana. Judges can take days to rule on “stand your ground” motions. In Monday’s hearing, which lasted eight hours and included 10 witnesses, Judge Daniel Merritt Jr. decided in just 45 minutes to deny the defense’s motion that Siskos, 42, should be immune from prosecution.
The hearing in Siskos’ case is a by-product of Florida’s controversial “stand your ground” law signed in 2005. Though no statistics are kept on how many such hearings have been held in self-defense cases, prosecutors and defense lawyers say they’re becoming more common, even when victims suffer minor injuries or defendants have weak self-defense cases. They’ve been filed on behalf of gang members, drug dealers and in spouse abuse cases, sometimes successfully, sometimes not.
“They’re almost part of due diligence,” said Tampa defense attorney Joe Caimano, who argued a successful “stand your ground” motion before a Hillsborough County judge late last year. His client, a bouncer at a strip club, shot and injured a patron who had thrown a beer bottle in his direction.

Businesses that routinely hire off-duty law enforcement officers will be out of luck during the convention when all local officers will be on duty, Tampa police Capt. Brett Bartlett told members of the Building Owners and Managers Association of Tampa Bay recently.
Last week, Tampa police had 116 off-duty jobs — which can include special events, escorts and construction site traffic control — a total number that police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said varies greatly week to week.
But thus far, downtown businesses aren’t scrambling to install more security cameras or hire bodyguards.
Sheridan’s company, which customizes security systems to fit homes and businesses, has done about 25 free consultations since sending out a first wave of mailers but has landed just two installation jobs.
No one has asked for a bodyguard yet from Reder Investigations and Security Consulting LLC, which is advertising armed escort services for the RNC.

Steffens said complaints about Miyako specifically alleged human trafficking and prostitution. They came from from nearby businesses, he said.
A woman was arrested and charged with solicitation of prostitution. Steffens said the woman Lian Jin Jin, 41, spoke enough English to communicate with officers.
Steffens declined to comment further on the human trafficking aspect, other than to say it was a concern. The Clearwater Police Department, which has a human trafficking task force, assisted the police department, as well as the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Health.
Stephen Chellis is operator of Miyako and is someone “who’s in daily control of the business,” Steffens said.

This isn’t the first time a prostitution arrest has been linked to someone associated with Miyako, according to Steffens. He said that three Asian females were arrested on prostitution charges in 2007.
