8 more men arrested in sting targeting soliciting sex with men in Polk Co. parks
LAKELAND –
Polk Count Sheriff Grady Judd and PCSO Vice detectives announced the arrest of eight more men for soliciting sex with other males in a Polk County park.
According to officials, the men were arrested during an undercover operation at Saddle Creek Park on Combee Road, between Lakeland and Winter Haven.
Officials said detectives made contact with the men in the park and six of the eight were arrested for allegedly asking detectives to have sex with them.
According to officials, the following men were arrested for soliciting sex with a male detective:
Mark A. Skinner, 55, of Lakeland — Recently laid off from Highlands City Baptist Church (position unknown), married, former Sheriff’s Advisory Council volunteer Gerald Cox, 71, of Lakeland — Retired, married Russell Colvin, 78, of Winter Haven — Retired, married Daniel Ortiz, Jr., 39, of Davenport — Franchise consultant with Denny’s Restaurants, married Larry Oldham, 67, of Auburndale …

ST. PETERSBURG – The St. Petersburg Police Department now possesses a donated armored truck that will eventually become an unattended surveillance vehicle.
Unattended, but decidedly not undercover.
“This will create some very high visibility in our neighborhoods, or wherever we choose to deploy it,” Chief Chuck Harmon explained.
“I want the good people as well as the bad people to know that it is there,” Harmon said.
Harmon ticked off several possible applications: park it in front of suspected drug houses or houses of prostitution, near businesses or bars where crowds congregate or places where teens hangout after football games.
“We’re going to put some equipment in it, some cameras, some video capabilities” he explained. “We’re going to make sure the vehicle is a stand-alone thing where it can sit out on a location unattended and record and see what’s going on.”

Pasco man accused of preying on prostitutes
WESLEY CHAPEL — Nathan C. Floyd, a 30-year-old laborer with the grim reaper tattooed on his forearm, is accused of preying on prostitutes in Hillsborough and Pasco counties.
Authorities say the women willingly followed him to locations where he raped them, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office states.
As of Friday afternoon, Floyd was charged with raping three women, all prostitutes in Hillsborough. Pasco Sheriff’s spokesman Kevin Doll said Floyd brought the women to Pasco. The victims told investigators that Floyd held a knife to their throats and threatened them during the act. One victim, who is 38, said Floyd brought her to a house in the Angus Valley neighborhood of Wesley Chapel on Nov. 1. The other two victims, ages 33 and 25, said they were assaulted in the woods.

Tampa Escorts: Land O’ Lakes Man Charged in Prostitute Rape

A Land O’ Lakes man was arrested Thursday evening on suspicion of picking up a prostitute and driving her to a vacated residence to rape her at knife point.
Nathan Christopher Floyd, 29, of 21376 Snook Circle, was arrested after the victim identified him in a photopack. Floyd admitted to having sex with the woman, whose name is not being released, but said he didn’t use the switchblade knife he had on his person.
This particular incident took place on Nov. 1, 2011. According to the arrest report, Floyd drove the victim to a vacant residence at 26438 Brahma Drive in Wesley Chapel and placed an open knife blade againt her throat.

Floyd may face more charges related to similar attacks on other prostitutes in Hillsborough and Pasco counties, officials said. Other women have positively identified Floyd through a photopack.

TAMPA – Some Florida lawmakers want to stop welfare abuse by setting new rules for where government assistance cards can be used.
Every month, Florida gives needy families million of dollars in temporary cash assistance. It’s supposed to help them cover basic living expenses. But there are no rules that limit where the government assistance (EBT) cards can be used.

We even found thousands withdrawn at casinos in Florida and on the Las Vegas strip. We also found withdrawals at two strip clubs.
“It should be easy for the government to say you can’t use EBT in a strip club,” observed Tampa resident Tim Blue.

State lawmakers are debating a plan that would ban state benefit withdrawals at strip clubs, casinos and out-of-state ATMs. But there are no guarantees it will pass.
