VALRICO – A Valrico man was arrested Monday at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport. He is accused of secretly videotaping other men at the urinal.
And it wasn’t in just any bathroom — it was the same restroom where former U.S. Senator Larry Craig of Idaho was arrested in 2007.
Craig was accused of soliciting sex from an undercover police officer.
Police say Monday, 34-year-old Joshua Fletcher rigged a book with a video camera, and set it up to record in front of the urinals.
He is charged with two count of interfering with privacy, and was released pending an April court date.

Tampa Escorts: Police and Residents Talk Crime in Tampa Heights

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

Other residents gathered at 300 East also complained to the officers about other nearby drug dens, speeding ATV riders, and gang fights.
Roll call leader Sgt. Chris Ugles took notes and relayed complaints to the appropriate officer gathered around him, depending on neighborhood location. He pledged delegation, follow-ups and action to the residents.
“This is your community,” he told them. “We appreciate having you as our eyes and ears.”
Neighborhood roll calls are coordinated between police and residents and held at local businesses and homes to increase crime awareness and deter criminal activity in higher crime areas.
Ugles also used the occasion to announced the police department’s new Prostitution Exclusion Zone, or PEZ corridor, which makes it easier for cops to charge repeat offender prostitutes with felony violation of probation within the zone. Ugles said the PEZ boundaries stretch from Fowler to Seventh avenues, and Nebraska Avenue to 15

Tampa Strip Clubs: Mailbag: Rick Scott, Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Tampa strip clubs

Mailbag: Rick Scott, Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Tampa strip clubs

“The reality is there is really nothing to account for Tampa’s pretty extraordinary ranking of third nationally in number of strip clubs per capita. It’s not a big city, and it’s not a big convention magnet. I have lived in Miami, and few people can name or locate even one strip club there. They are invisible. But people all over the country can name at least one or more Tampa strip clubs. They seem to be everywhere. So why are there so many? Perhaps that’s a different story than whether or not it is the ‘capital.’ Its new title should perhaps be ‘Strip Club Mecca.’”

“I have heard frequently that Tampa’s lax enforcement of rules intended to prohibit ‘lap dancing’ or ‘friction dancing’ — the ’six foot rule’ famously supported by Bob Buckhorn when he was on the City Council — is not the norm.  I have no way to learn whether this is true, but …

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

Joshua Fletcher, 34, of Valrico, appeared in court Jan. 18 on two misdemeanor counts of interference of privacy.
Fletcher was charged Jan. 18 after someone complained to police that he was holding what appeared to be a book with a hole in it with a camera or cell phone behind the book in a restroom at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
According to the StarTribune, airport police approached Fletcher outside the restroom and recovered his cellphone, which contained multiple videos of men urinating in public restrooms. A search of a trash bin nearby revealed an address book with a hole in it and a digital camera.
The incident occurred in the same restroom where former U.S. Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, was arrested in June 2007 for allegedly soliciting sex from an undercover police officer.

State Senator Cites Chris Rock Joke in Gambling Debate by Claiming Tampa is the Strip Club Capital of the World

“In the words of noted urban planner Chris Rock, Tampa is the ‘strip club capital of the world,’” wrote GQ last year.
“Speaking of needing some rest, Chris Rock (who has joked Tampa is the strip club capital of the world) was spotted at 2001 Odyssey on Dale Mabry,” wrote the Tampa Bay Times in 2008.
We’re not 100 percent sure whether the title originated with Rock, but the Times reported that he cracked the joke while doing a show in Tampa back in 2008: “I hear this is the strip club capital of the world. They teach you pole dancing in the third grade.”
Though it appears both Bogdanoff and Rock are wrong. Tampa is not the strip club capital of the world.

PolitiFact Florida: Is Tampa the ‘strip club capital of the world’?
It came up in Tallahassee this week.
State Sen. Ellyn Bogdanoff, a Fort Lauderdale Republican, wanted to thwart claims that new destination resort casinos she supports would tarnish Florida’s family-friendly rep.
“People do not go to South Beach to see Mickey Mouse. They just don’t,” she said at the end of debate on her gambling bill Monday. “They go there for different reasons. We have the strip club capital of the world in Tampa. I hate to say it out loud, but we do. We have not ruined our family-friendly image.”
It’s been said about Tampa many times, but is it true? PolitiFact Florida decided to review the evidence.
On a more serious note, they also fact-checked an ad from a super PAC targeting Newt Gingrich. The ad has some truth in it, but also one claim that’s Pants on Fire.
