TAMPA — Less than three months after they began their all-day stints in downtown’s Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, Occupy Tampa protesters are picking up stakes and heading for West Tampa land owned by strip club king Joe Redner.
Though they will keep a presence near Curtis Hixon, the protesters are moving their tents and “general assembly” rallies to Voice of Freedom Park, a small parcel Redner owns at 2101 W Main St.

Tampa Adult Entertainment: Behavior treatment center has new woes

Friday, December 30th, 2011

A prostitution sting, a gas station mug shot magazine, and a sheriff deputy’s fall from grace are wrapped up in an odd case that has created fresh headaches for an embattled Lowcountry treatment provider.
The case started with the Sept. 15 arrest of Dr. Walter Hiott, a psychiatrist working with troubled children and adolescents at Palmetto Behavioral Health System, which has drawn attention for multiple escapes and other problems over the past year.
Hiott, 47, was caught up in a prostitution sting run by the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, according to Maj. Jim Brady. Hiott allegedly tried to pay an escort for sex at a West Ashley motel only to find out the woman was a police informant, Brady said.
Vice investigators moved in and arrested Hiott, charging him with soliciting for prostitution, a misdemeanor. He was released that same day on a personal recognizance bond, court records show.

Tampa Escorts: St. Petersburg police find suspects in woman’s slaying in a grimly familiar …

Friday, December 30th, 2011

The men tortured and beat the woman, police said, because she had stolen four pairs of children’s shoes the men intended to give as gifts for Christmas.
The two men who climbed down from the attic Wednesday were Letrell McKnight and Santonio Smith, both 21. Darryl Williams, 35, was arrested Thursday.
All three men were charged with second-degree murder in the death of Stacia Berman, 42. All three have extensive arrest records in Pinellas County.
Berman was a transient, according to police, who at the time of her death was staying with the three men in their apartment at 527 Eighth St. N.
Police described their home, Apt. 3, as a “drug trap.” Berman had a long criminal record that included arrests for drug possession and prostitution. The men were supplying her with drugs, police said.

Tampa Escorts: The iPhone Siri takes on the bay

Friday, December 30th, 2011

By Stephanie Hayes, Times Staff WriterTampa Bay Times In Print: Friday, December 30, 2011
The most talked-about lady of 2011 is inside the magic box.
Her name is Siri, the “intelligent software assistant” that debuted in October in the new iPhone 4S. She pops up with a ding when you lift your phone, an acerbic substitute for the phone book and even Google. Need her to text someone while your hands are busy? She’ll do it. Need to know the weather? Boom, done.
But Siri, the scamp, has earned a reputation for being a little wiggy, a little naughty, a little saucy. She’ll interrupt your attempts to check voicemail. She’ll call your Aunt Pat when you want to dry your damp cat. She has been chided for looking up prostitutes, and for not looking up abortion clinics.

Occupy Tampa protestors establishing new home base

TAMPA — Less than three months after they began their all-day stints in downtown’s Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, Occupy Tampa protestors are picking up stakes and heading for West Tampa land owned by strip club king Joe Redner.
Though they will keep a presence near Curtis Hixon, the protestors are moving their tents and “general assembly” rallies to Voice of Freedom Park, a small parcel Redner owns at 2101 W. Main Street.
Their reason: They don’t want to keep dealing with Tampa Police.
Officers have made 66 arrests, mostly for trespassing in a public park after hours, against protestors since Oct. 21, according to the police department.
“It’s a losing battle,” said protestor Becky Rubright, as she helped set up the first tent at the West Tampa park on Thursday. “We can’t just keep getting people arrested for trespassing.”

Tampa Escorts: Police: Men accused of killing woman found floating in Lake Maggiore said she …

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

Berman, who was staying with the other men, was known to smoke crack cocaine and prostitute herself. Puetz said she received a supply of drugs from the men.
McKnight and Smith were arrested about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at 3210 39th St. S.
The men were found after hiding out in the home’s attic.
When officers and deputies from the U.S. Marshals Service went to the house, 21-year-old Nicole Johnson, McKnight’s girlfriend, adamantly denied that Smith and McKnight were there, police said. She said it was just her, two children and a roommate.
Officers searched the home and didn’t find them, but suspected they were hiding in the attic.

The Medical Examiner’s Office ruled her death a homicide, saying she suffered blunt trauma to the upper body. State records show Berman has a 20-year history of arrests that include drug possession and prostitution.

Tampa Adult Entertainment: Canadian tourist finds severed human leg washed ashore in St. Petersburg

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

Officers on land and water searched the city’s shoreline Tuesday for more body parts and will keep searching in the coming days. Meanwhile, police are asking the public to contact them with any information that could help them identify the person whose leg washed ashore. There’s no shortage of ways for a leg to be dumped into Tampa Bay, which is home to numerous marinas and boat slips, countless backyard docks and also commercial shipping lanes.
Police also said nothing links Tuesday’s discovery to a female body found just 4 miles away floating in Lake Maggiore on Christmas Day.
The woman was identified as Stacia Kay Berman, 42, whose last known address was 424 Second St. N. She was seen floating in the water about 3:30 p.m., on the north side of the lake by the 2800 block of 13th Street S.
The body found Sunday afternoon was not missing limbs. The Medical Examiner’s Office ruled her death a homicide Tuesday, saying she suffered blunt trauma to the upper body. Berman has a history of arrests going back 20 years, according to state records, that includes drug possession and prostitution.

Tampa Strip Clubs: Top stories of 2011: Details of chase, fatal crash still emerging

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

Records recently obtained by the St. Petersburg Times reveal disturbing new details surrounding the incident that morning and confirm something that many had long suspected — that Miles was on drugs at the time of the crash.
A toxicology report indicated that Miles’ blood contained oxycodone and alprazolam.
The news didn’t shock Anita McCain.
“It makes me angry that someone with that much medication in her would even consider getting behind the wheel,” she said. “But I’m not surprised.”
• • •
After Miles left the Brass Flamingo, a Port Richey strip club where she worked as a dancer under the stage name of “Liza,” at least three people called 911 in the early hours of May 10 to report that she was driving erratically in a red Dodge Ram.
