Tampa Strip Clubs: Spring Swing: Phillies’ hand holds new beginning, Four Aces

Monday, February 28th, 2011

gets dirt on his jersey while making a diving stop,
holds his bat perpendicular to the batter’s box and
reminds everyone it’s never too early to have a bad day, striking out in all three of his at-bats.
Over the next week, we’ll creep closer to these games actually mattering as I point my rental car toward the camps that dot the Gulf Coast — from Tampa/St. Pete to Alligator Alley to the state’s southwestern outpost in Fort Myers. But before we continue, let’s take a look at a few more pictures from Sunday before moving onto some additional Phillies material later in the day.

There are a few things in Clearwater that you can’t swing a Louisville Slugger without hitting. Strip clubs and billboards for bail bondsmen, for one. Star pitchers, for another.

Tampa Strip Clubs: Authorities continue investigating a December death at a Largo strip club

Authorities continue investigating a December death at a Largo strip club
By Lorri Helfand, Times Staff Writer In Print: Sunday, February 27, 2011
LARGO — Sandra Mosely still hasn’t buried her son. She won’t until she finds out how the 34-year-old died two months ago after a fight at a strip club on U.S 19.
“I’ve been dwelling on my son,” said Mosely, 53. “Sometimes I don’t sleep for days. I just can’t until I get some answers.”
Mosely and the rest of the family may have to wait a while longer to find out what happened to Jayson Zalewski.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is wrapping up its investigation, but it won’t release the findings yet. This week, it plans to present the case to the Pinellas-Pasco State Attorney’s Office to “determine if there was any foul play,” said sheriff’s Sgt. Tom Nestor.

On Dec. 29, Zalewski went to the 24 Karat Gentleman’s Club about midnight to see his girlfriend, who worked there, Taumoepeau said.

Bears’ Desmond Clark has property seized by police
Posted by Michael David Smith on February 25, 2011, 7:16 PM EST
A property in Lakeland, Florida, owned by Bears tight end Desmond Clark has been seized by police because drug dealers and prostitutes were regular guests, according to a local television station.
Bay News 9 quotes a local police officer as saying that the rental property owned by Clark and his brother has been a constant source of trouble in the community.
“This has been a thorn in our side, I want to say, for at least, the very least, four years,” said Officer Adrian Rodriguez.
Neither Clark nor his brother responded to requests for comment from Bay News 9, but Rodriguez said he had talked to Clark about it and that Clark acknowledged his property was a problem.

Tampa Strip Clubs: What will happen to all those empty Borders stores?

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

In theory, a new tenant could move into the old Borders location very quickly, said Noel Boeke, a bankruptcy lawyer in Tampa with the law firm of Holland & Knight. That’s because the bankruptcy law gives Borders the ability to exit existing leases quickly, and hand over the lease to a new tenant.
That process isn’t used often, Boeke said, because there’s a long list of steps. New tenants have to follow local zoning rules. (So something like a strip club could not swoop in and take over a Borders if the zoning wouldn’t allow it before.) And landlords can object in court if they have complaints. When CircuitCity filed bankruptcy, and put more than 100 locations on the market immediately, only a handful were directly assumed by a new tenant.

[With rap moguls like Jay-Z and Diddy owning their own restaurants, Dipset's Freekey Zekey explains why North Carolina residents should try out his The Palmetto dining.]
First and foremost, the name of my restaurant is The Palmetto. It’s located in Greensboro, North Carolina. A lot of people run around and get a whole lot of jewelry and spend money in strip clubs and not that I’m saying that any of that is bad, but I want to build a foundation.

Tampa Strip Clubs: Tampa’s mayoral candidates have few regrets

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

Former mayor Dick Greco told the audience was “no one particular thing” he regrets during his four terms as the city’s mayor and a preceding term on the city council.
“I’ve been in politics so long it would probably take all night,” he joked.
Tom Scott, who served a decade on the county commission and four years as Tampa Council Chairman, said he, too, couldn’t think of anything in particular he regretted.
“I don’t regret any vote,” Rose Ferlita said, concurring with Greco and Scott. “We all make mistakes, but I’ve always been comfortable that I’ve voted from the heart.”
The exceptions were Bob Buckhorn and Ed Turanchik.
Buckhorn said “I would have made the six-feet rule three feet” â lightheartedly referring to his vocal support as a Tampa councilman for a lap dance ban that requires patrons of strip clubs within the city limits to stay at least six feet away from the dancers.

Tampa Adult Entertainment: Officer David Crawford was hardworking, with soft spot for domestic violence …

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

In a scene that is becoming too familiar, Crawford was already dead by the time his wife and daughter arrived at Bayfront Medical Center, Harmon said.
With 25 years on the force, Crawford’s personnel file is stuffed with good evaluations and dozens of letters of praise from citizens and supervisors.
He once outsmarted suspects in a car by pulling in front of them so that his headlights blinded the driver. Then he took cover nearby and ordered them to stay in the car, buying time until backup arrived. Crawford’s “blinding” technique “should be used as a training example on how to control a scene,” his supervisor wrote. “He made the suspects think there was more than one officer.”
The only major blemish on Crawford’s record was a 15-day suspension in 1998 for having a relationship with a prostitute who was also selling drugs.
