Monday, May 31st, 2010

TAMPA, Fla. –
An angry mother is suing a Tampa strip club, alleging it hired her 16-year-old daughter as a nude dancer.
Valorie Duran says Emperors Gentleman’s Club should have done their homework and checked her daughter’s birth date before hiring her.
Duran says her daughter ran away several months ago and sought employment at the club.
The teen was allegedly taped in the club and featured in a men’s magazine called Night Moves. She is seen in the ad promoting the club.
Several calls to the club went unanswered Sunday. A telephone message could not be left.

Busted for painkiller abuse, they’re back in business
By Susan Taylor Martin, Times Senior Correspondent Posted: May 28, 2010 12:56 PM
TAMPA — In 2004, Dr. Rosetta Cannata pleaded guilty to three felonies and permanently relinquished her Florida medical license after she was caught selling addictive pain killers to an undercover cop for cash.
Cannata’s physician assistant, James H. Coker, lost his state license, too. He was peddling pain killers at a Tampa strip club using prescription slips presigned by Cannata.
Yet professional disgrace didn’t stop either Cannata or Coker. Both have gone on to own pain management clinics, hers in Tampa, his in Brandon and Jacksonville.
It’s striking example of the nearly non-existent regulation that has enabled scores of “pill mills” to pop up throughout the Tampa Bay area and the rest of Florida. But that may come to an end when a tough new state law takes effect in October.

Now 53, Cannata got her medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean and did a residency in anesthesiology at a hospital connected with the New York state university system. In 1986, she was licensed to practice in Florida, where she opened offices in Cape Coral, Englewood and Tampa.
The Tampa office catered to “persons who were working in the adult entertainment business,” according to state Board of Medicine records. Cannata even rented space in clubs like the Pink Pony to use as examination rooms.
In July 2001, Cannata was hit with a $111,139 judgment for breaching a lease in a Sarasota shopping center. Soon afterwards, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office learned from an informant that her physician assistant — Coker — was selling prescriptions for addictive drugs at the Diamond’s Men’s Club and Cannata’s Tampa office

Florida: Mother sues after strip club hires her 16-year-old daughter (watch video report)
May 28, 2010
Tampa, Fla. – A Bay area mother is furious after her 16-year-old daughter was hired as a nude dancer at the Emperors Gentleman’s Club on Adamo Drive in Tampa.
The mom is so angry that she filed a lawsuit against the club. She says her daughter was violated by being made to dance fully naked in front of older men.
“If they would have done their job, they would have known she was 16, someone’s daughter, and someone is gonna raise a ruckus,” says Valorie Duran.
Valorie made good on her promise to “raise a ruckus” by hiring Tampa attorney Joseph Bryant. She called Bryant back in January, after she reported her daughter missing. The teen reportedly ran away from home. But before she did, Valorie heard that her daughter had been hired at Emperors.
