Tampa Adult Entertainment: Consultant recommends Pasco-owned property for proposed multisports complex

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Starkey Ranch, which is close to the Trinity property, was ranked similarly on most of the factors except for one: Getting the site ready for construction would be costly, at least $1.4 million.
Concourse Center didn’t have any hotels within a 10-mile radius.
Pasco Town Centre needs internal roads and would require too many regulatory approvals.
Connerton had the least amount of nearby retail. Wiregrass, Engle Park and New River would come with “substantial” development costs.
Another plus for the Trinity site? Seven hotels with at least 50 rooms are located within 10 miles.
But it’s not likely that all the hotels listed near the Trinity property would be places that traveling youth sports teams would want to stay.
One of them is Valu-Lodge on U.S. 19 in New Port Richey, a motel that was featured in the Pasco Times earlier this year because of the high number of police calls — drugs, prostitution, theft — generated at the address.

Tampa Strip Clubs: Ybor business owner files for City Council run

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

This is Pawlowski’s first attempt at winning public office. Among his complaints about the current City Council: its recent vote to deny pay raises to police officers. “That’s shameful,” he said. “That sort of action encourages corruption, it encourages lawlessness and it encourages police not to give their full attention to their job.” Pawlowski said if elected, he would turn over his council salary — about $40,000 a year — to the city police and fire departments.
Pawlowski joins Lynette Judge and Stanley Gloster in the race to replace council member Tom Scott, who is leaving the District 5 seat to run for mayor.
He said he expects his opponents to clobber him during the campaign about his resort, which features a private men’s club with a communal steam room. On the other hand, he notes that strip club owner Joe Redner fared well in the 2007 election, ending up in a run-off against Gwen Miller, who ultimately defeated him.

Carolina Panthers linebacker addresses assault charge outside strip club
December 06, 2009 6:23 PM
CHARLOTTE – This was the wrong week to play against Jon Beason.
After what was undoubtedly the most frustrating week of his young life, Beason took out his frustrations on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by intercepting rookie Josh Freeman twice in the red zone in Carolina’s 16-6 win.
His biggest game of the season comes just six days after Beason was arrested on assault charges and named in a civil suit amid unproven allegations he once was seen using cocaine with a woman at a party on Lake Norman. Through his attorney, George Laughrun, Beason vehemently denies ever having used illegal drugs or assaulting accuser Gregory Frye.
After the game, Beason talked briefly about the incident.

Tampa Strip Clubs: Beason’s 2 game-changing ints lead defense

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

Posted: Sunday, Dec. 06, 2009
A difficult week ended in a gratifying manner Sunday for Carolina Panthers middle linebacker Jon Beason.
Beason intercepted two Josh Freeman passes and had six tackles, helping the Panthers beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 16-6 at Bank of America Stadium.
The interceptions – Beason’s fourth and fifth of the season – were pivotal. Both came with the Bucs deep in Panthers territory and with Carolina hanging onto a precarious lead.
“When it’s your turn, you have to make a play,” Beason told reporters after the game. “I had the opportunity and I came up big.”
Beason’s tough week began when he was arrested last Monday for assaulting a man at a local strip club in November. Later in the week, the man named Beason in a civil suit.

Tampa Strip Clubs: New group aims to help pro-choice women candidates in Florida races

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

It was the brainchild of Tampa Democrat Alex Sink, state chief financial officer, who’s running for governor. Backing Sink will be the group’s top priority this year, Robinson said.
But she and others denied it’s just an outgrowth of the Sink campaign. The organization was planned in 2007 and began operation last year, before Sink decided to run for governor, Robinson said.
“We’ve been operating a little bit below the radar,” Robinson said.
The group is most active so far in the Tampa Bay area and Broward County.
A Tampa fundraiser for Ruth’s List Tuesday drew former University of South Florida President Betty Castor, Clerk of Court Pat Frank, Hillsborough Democratic Party Chair Pat Kemp and several local women candidates.
Mayor Pam Iorio and City Councilwoman Mary Mulhern didn’t attend, but say they are backers.
Another attendee was Joe Redner, Tampa strip club magnate who has moved into political and diversified business interests.

Tampa Strip Clubs: Sweetbay’s new Tarpon store is energy-saving showcase

Friday, December 4th, 2009

Refrigerated sections will have new pull-down curtains to close after customers leave for the day, reducing the flow of refrigerated air that ends up wasted on the floor at night.
Other changes were made to reduce the overall environmental impact of the store. There are drought-tolerant native plants in the parking lot fed by reclaimed water. There are air pumps for customers arriving on bike, and a link to the Pinellas Trail behind the store.
Rainwater is stored in large cisterns under the parking lot, rather than run off the property.
Where there is carpeting, it’s held down with low-chemical use glue. Most of the store has polished concrete floors rather than waxed linoleum, saving 55 gallons of floor stripper that’s typically required to polish floors in other stores. Even janitorial closets have air venting to the outside, improving indoor air quality.

Tampa Strip Clubs: No buzz for Bucs-Panthers

Friday, December 4th, 2009

As in Carolina’s decisive win late last season over the Bucs and in a 28-21 victory in Tampa on Oct. 18, the Panthers would like to establish their running game to take pressure off Moore. DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart combined for 262 yards rushing in the first meeting, including Williams’ tiebreaking 1-yard TD run with 29 seconds left.
But Williams turned his ankle against the Jets and missed practice time in what’s been a tumultuous week for Carolina.
On the same day an X-ray revealed Delhomme’s broken finger, Pro Bowl middle linebacker Jon Beason was arrested on a misdemeanor assault charge in connection with an incident last month at a Charlotte strip club. Beason, Carolina’s leading tackler, won’t face any immediate discipline as he leads a defense rocked by injuries.

Tampa Strip Clubs: Moore has a history with Bucs

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

… He had this same pre-game speech,” said Brown. “He’d come in and say, ‘All right, men. Running backs, you’ve got to run the ball. Wide receivers, you’ve got to catch it. Linemen, you’ve got to block. Quarterback, you’ve got to throw it.’”
Brown laughed.
“He’d go on down the line like that. Then he’d finish by saying, ‘If they don’t score, they don’t win.’ That was his pre-game speech every week. But it never got old.”
Brown also said that while Bowden did have a temper, he never heard him curse. “He was eat-up with (saying) ‘dadgummit,’ though,” Brown said.
Fox declined to talk specifically about the off-field problems of linebacker Jon Beason, who was arrested Monday and accused of punching a man in the face at a Charlotte strip club in November.
