You see as much as I’ve grown to enjoy stories about high-profile wide receivers stabbing teammates in the neck with scissors, ex-defensive linemen being busted with dope stashes the size of small linebackers and conspiracy theories involving double top secret quarteback-tight end play drawing sessions, I actually find it refreshing to see team a that’s underachieved mightily over the past decade for once focus most of their energy on football.
Sure, the Cowboys still made a few offseason headlines.
The collapse of the team’s indoor facility raised some eyebrows. The opening of Jerry World and the discovery of Jones’ low-hanging, punt-blocking mega jumbo screen spawned some columns. And the cutting of reality TV show winner Jesse Holley even made the news.
But the vast majority of stories written on the Cowboys since the beginning of training camp have been about what’s happening on the field rather than in the locker room or in a strip club, which is an awfully nice change of pace.

TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) — The ailing Lockerbie bomber looked weak and pale, sitting in a wheelchair, as he was visited by a group of African parliamentarians Wednesday in a rare appearance in the hospital where he is being treated for prostate cancer. Abdel Baset al-Megrahi appeared for only five minutes and did not speak during the visit in the Tripoli Medical Center. Dressed in hospital scrubs, he wore a surgical mask over his mouth and nose and a traditional embroidered cap.
Suspect in slayings well-known in his neighborhood
MILWAUKEE (AP) – Walter Ellis was anything but unknown in his north side neighborhood in Milwaukee – a mix of condemned and run-down houses with some nicer, newer homes. Even as the bodies of suspected prostitutes began turning up in garbage bins and abandoned buildings near his home, the stocky Ellis had regular – sometimes violent, often friendly – interaction with neighbors and family, and more than a dozen run-ins with police.

Mopping up Commissioner White’s sexual discrimination mess: Should taxpayers pick up the tab?

And you thought the messy part was over after those salacious allegations played out in court about the married elected official begging the much younger employee for a kiss.
It’s about to get messier.
Last week a federal jury handed down a big, fat we-don’t-buy-it to Hillsborough Commissioner and Democrat Kevin White in a sex discrimination case filed by his then-aide, who was 22. The jury was less than impressed with White’s defense that he wasn’t repeatedly hitting on Alyssa Ogden, just setting her up with this politically powerful elderly guy he knew. (Or, as a juror later put it, “pimping.”)
The jury did not buy that her firing was more about incompetence than noncompliance.

Clearwater mayor agrees to ‘pimp‘ map
CLEARWATER The Dolph Map Company made the city of Clearwater an offer it couldnt refuse.
If the city and the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce would help the Fort Lauderdale-based company sell advertising in the 10,000 Clearwater street maps it plans to print, the company would give the city and the chamber 4,000 of those maps to distribute at no cost to visitors.
The remaining maps will be given to the advertisers, along with a countertop display rack, for free distribution to their customers.
Area businesses can take advantage of this unique opportunity to promote their businesses by participating in the Business Showcase Directory of the map, says the letter that Dolph asked Mayor Frank Hibbard to sign in exchange for the free maps.
