Tampa Escorts: TO’s magic finally a factor for Bills

Monday, September 21st, 2009

Garbage Time Mikhail Prokhorov, the Russian billionaire and the 40th wealthiest man in the world, is reportedly prepared to finance the NBA Nets’ move to Brooklyn by acquiring a stake in the club issuing a bond through his investment firm to fund arena construction. The New York Daily News also reports he was arrested in 2007 on suspicion he was involved in a prostitution ring, which makes me wonder: How did the NHL miss out on this guy? … Nazem Kadri’s the kind of kid you cheer for, but when I saw the Maple Leafs first-round pick tossed aside like a rag doll by Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Braydon Cobourn on Saturday night, it’s apparent he needs time in the weight room … Detroit Tigers rookie Rick Porcello could have sewn up my American League rookie of the year vote Friday night with a win against the Minnesota Twins. He’s still the leader on my ballot because he’s doing it for a contending tea …

New police chief is a big step for Tampa
By Sue Carlton, Times Columnist In Print: Friday, September 18, 2009
When longtime cop Jane Castor got a big promotion a few years back, one that put her a step closer to becoming Tampa’s first female police chief, I wrote about her by listing what I thought were some interesting facts.
Such as: She was a lanky 6-foot blond who wore size 11 shoes. She went to the University of Tampa on a basketball and volleyball scholarship. She had worked everything from prostitution to protecting presidents in her more than 20 years on the job. Her favorite movie was To Kill a Mockingbird. She had two little boys about whom she could talk endlessly. She had known four fellow cops killed in the line of duty.

Tampa Escorts: Operation Hot Date nets 34 arrests

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

The Polk Sheriff County Sheriff’s Office launched a sting over the weekend called Operation Hot Date. Undercover detectives arrested 34 people, including alleged prostitutes and their pimps who were advertising on Craigslist. They came to Polk from Tampa, Orlando, and out the state.
At a press conference on Monday, Sheriff Grady Judd called Craigslist a one-stop shop for all your prostitution needs.
“This is a public health issue. We know historically that prostitutes spread HIV and AIDS,” Judd said.
Undercover detectives said the women negotiated prices for sex acts and agreed to come to a location in Polk.
Recently, Craigslist said that it’s tightening its rules on ads with sexual content. In May, site administrators vowed to review submission more closely and replaced the erotic services category with an adult category.

Four men were arrested. Detectives said John Frese is a pimp and came from Lakeland to get his share of the profits. Devon Chambers is also charged.

Tampa Escorts: ‘This guy is straight-up weird,’ juror in Hillsborough …

They met up with one of White’s uncles and C. Blythe Andrews Jr., the then 77-year-old chairman of the Florida Sentinel Bulletin, a paper catering to Tampa’s African-American community. They dined and shopped and late that night, Ogden said, White asked to share her hotel bed, which he denied.
White’s account of the trip was that Ogden asked to go and Andrews volunteered to reimburse her for her plane ticket. White, 44, a Democrat, had introduced the two days earlier and said he believed they developed a mutual romantic attraction.
Despite misgivings, he said he went along with the plan because Andrews is a powerful person whose newspaper endorsements are important.
“If what he’s saying was true, he was pimping somebody,” Shiver said. “Maybe I’m naive, but I just couldn’t imagine doing something like that.”

Tampa Adult Entertainment: Rubio asks Crist to probe ACORN in Florida

Rubio asks Crist to probe ACORN in Florida
by George Bennett | September 17th, 2009
Former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio has written a letter to his 2010 GOP Senate primary rival, Gov. Charlie Crist, asking him to probe scandal-rocked ACORN’s activities in Florida.
The left-leaning group has come under fire after a series of undercover videos — featuring a 20-year-old Florida International University student — have revealed ACORN workers appearing to condone prostitution and promote tax evasion.
Rubio’s letter notes a St. Petersburg Times report about Crist’s past links to ACORN and Crist’s absence in 2008 from the chorus of Republicans who criticized the group’s voter-registration practices.

Tampa Adult Entertainment: Annexation efforts questioned

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

In a response to a request from Commissioner Rodney Woods, Police Chief Lester Aradi expressed comments about the negative effects of annexations in writing to city officials and also at the commission meeting Sept. 15.
Annexations over the past year, and in previous years, have had a cumulative and substantive draining effect upon police department resources, Aradi wrote.
He pointed out the problem of annexing properties that immediately deplete available resources and divert police service, such as some mobile home parks and apartment complexes.
All of these large density annexations have required immediate, continual large-scale responses and attention from the police department. Low income housing and the transient nature of the residents can often result in noticeable increases in illegal narcotics activity, domestic violence, gang activity, thefts, and code enforcement issues, Aradi wrote.
Plans to annex an adult entertainment complex will divert undercover law enforcement resources away from existing drug and vice investigations, he wrote.

Tampa Strip Clubs: The race for the bottom: Who will win Readers’ Poll for Worst …

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Brian Blair is one of this year’s nominees for Worst Local Politician.
You can only find out by reading Best of the Bay when it’s published Sept. 16 — or by attending tonight’s Best of the Bay Awards Party, aka The Loafies.
It’s a tough category to predict because, well, there were so many deserving candidates. Readers named a whole slew of ‘em. Among those nominated: “All Democrats,” “Any Republican,” “anyone against gay pride,” “anyone in the County Commission’s office,” “anyone who has focused on regulating strip clubs as their career,” “crazy WANDA,” “the Florida legislature,” and (this may be the most cynical response of all), “The Honest One.”
Just about every sitting elected official in Tampa Bay and Tallahassee got a nod, including Gover
nor Crist, U.S. Reps. Buchanan and Castor, city council and county commission and school board members of all stripes, and, of course, Buddy Johnson.
