According to the report, a patrol car making a U-turn about 4 a.m. near 12340 U.S. 301 spotted what appeared to be a woman standing behind an abandoned business. The officer shined his spotlight toward the back of the business, and the person took off running into some woods.
The officer and a police dog soon found a man changing out of the tank top and skirt into a blue button-down shirt and tan shorts, the report said.
The man, Walter Hank Ryan, said he had been staying at a motel but had run out of money and was planning to sleep in the woods, according to the report. He told the officer that he wasn’t a prostitute, and that dressing in woman’s clothing is something he does in his spare time.

BRADENTON — In an area known for drug deals, violence and prostitution, a new Bradenton Police Department district office was opened recently in hopes of reducing crime.
The site at 1404 14th St. W. was purchased earlier this year by Bradenton Downtown Development Authority when Manatee Glens moved its Family Emergency Treatment Center.
“Eventually the site will be a redevelopment site, but with today’s market we’re not sure how that long that will be,” said Mike Kennedy, executive director of DDA.

Mehrman had a debilitating muscular disease, used a wheelchair and needed constant care. Her daughter has multiple sclerosis and doesn’t live in Tampa.
Mallory cooperated with police after Mehrman’s death, but “her story didn’t add up,” McElroy said.
Mallory told police today that she administered drugs to Mehrman but didn’t give any explanation for the elevated drug levels or missing money, McElroy said.
Asked why Mallory faces a second-degree murder charge, McElroy said police worked closely with the state attorney’s office in determining the appropriate charges.
If convicted, Mallory could face life behind bars.
In January 2004, Mallory pleaded guilty to soliciting another to commit prostitution. An admitted crack user, she offered to perform a sexual act in exchange for $23 to pay rent, a police report states. She was sentenced to 10 days in jail, with credit for time served.

When longtime cop Jane Castor got a big promotion a few years back, one that put her a step closer to becoming the first female police chief in Tampa, Fla., I wrote about her by listing what I thought were some interesting facts.
Such as: She was a lanky 6-foot blonde who wore size 11 shoes. She went to the University of Tampa on a basketball and volleyball scholarship. She had worked everything from prostitution to protecting presidents in her more than 20 years on the job. Her favorite movie was ‘To Kill a Mockingbird.’ She had two little boys about whom she could talk endlessly. She had known four fellow cops killed in the line of duty.
