JULY 29–In a setback to her nascent U.S. Senate campaign, porn star Stormy Daniels (real name: Stephanie Clifford) was arrested Saturday afternoon for domestic violence after she allegedly battered her husband because she was “upset because the way the laundry had been done.” Clifford, who has said she is interested in challenging Republican David Vitter next year for his Senate seat from Louisiana, was nabbed for striking her husband “Michael on his head with her hands several times,” according to a Tampa Bay Police Department report. Clifford, 30, told cops that she did not intentionally hit her husband, but acknowledged tossing a potted plant in the kitchen sink, throwing the couple’s wedding album on the floor, and breaking some candles. The adult film actress, pictured in the below mug shot, was briefly booked into the Hillsborough County jail, where she was later released on $1000 bond. Clifford, who decided to challenge Vitter after the incumbent admitted patronizing a prostitution ring, has formed an exploratory committee in her home state of Louisiana. NEW ORLEANS — Adult film star Stormy Daniels, who has expressed interest in next year’s U.S. Senate race, was arrested over the weekend on a domestic violence complaint, an adult entertainment news service reported.
“XBIZ” obtained documents related to Daniels’ arrest Saturday in Tampa. According to the report, she was booked on a misdemeanor charge and released after posting bond.
Daniels’ real name is Stephanie Gregory Clifford, which is what is listed on the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office booking report.
Daniels has conducted two of what she calls “listening tours,” in which she has appeared to discuss politics at sites across Louisiana. The tours followed the creation of a “Draft Stormy” website that aimed to generate interest in a Daniels challenge to incumbent U.S. Senator David Vitter.

NEW ORLEANS — It’s been a tough week for porn actress Stormy Daniels — complete with a domestic violence charge and a car explosion — as she continues to mull a U.S. Senate bid that could make life uncomfortable for incumbent first-term Louisiana Republican David Vitter, still recovering from a sex scandal.
Daniels was arrested Saturday on a domestic violence battery charge after she allegedly hit her husband at their home in Tampa, Fla., during a dispute about laundry and unpaid bills.
Her arrest came two days after her political adviser in Louisiana, Brian Welsh, said his parked 1996 Audi may have been blown up by someone on July 23 outside his apartment in an upscale downtown area of New Orleans.
“It’s something out of The Sopranos,” said Edward E. Chervenak, a professor of politics at the University of New Orleans. “Very weird.”
In May, Daniels announced that she was interested in a 2010 run for the Senate seat held by Vitter, whose family-values reputation was marred in 2007 when his name was linked to a Washington prostitution ring.

Slightly different verdict has same result in retrial

LARGO — In his second trial for killing a 42-year-old Pinellas Park prostitute, Leo Richard Berube was convicted of second-degree murder instead of first-degree murder.
The distinction may not make a difference.
Berube was serving a mandatory life sentence after his 2006 first-degree murder conviction for killing Ann Griffith, but earlier this year an appeals court said he should get a new trial.
He was convicted Friday of second-degree murder, which does not always carry a life sentence. But because Berube committed the 2003 murder less than three years after getting out of prison, he falls under a law that requires he be sentenced to life in prison again, assistant state attorney Frank Piazza said.
